Below you will find a handful of useful tips how to learn Polish and don't get tired too much:-) Ready? Here we go!
- First of all you have to know why you are studing Polish language. Maybe you need Polish at school or at work? Or you want to visit Poland? Or you are simply interested in Polish culture? Remember, that a clearly defined purpose could be very useful for you.
- Regularity is the key to success! Make a plan how much time a day you want to spend on learning Polish. Write it on a piece of paper and attached in a visible place (for example to your fridge). It's easer to find time to repeat new words or practise grammar every day for 30 min than do it once a week for 3 hours.
- Buy a good dictionary! It will help you to learn new words, improve your pronunciation and grammar.
- Learning a language should be a pleasure, not a duty! Find a way to make it fun. If you don’t understand, ask your teacher. Don’t get discouragedand think positive!
- Find a partner! You can learn a language in tandem. How? Maybe one of your Polish friend wants to learn your language? In return he can speak with you in Polish? Language exchange is the best way to learn language.
- Use the Internet. You will find many useful websites with excercises, texts or audio files (feel free to visit our website http://easypolish.com.pl/en/).
- Watch TV shows, movies, read newspapers and magazines and listen Polish music! Believe me, it's one effective methods to learn a foreign language!
- Use a flashcards. Flashcards are an incredibly useful and flexible resource for teaching vocabulary. Write a vocabulary word on the front and its Polish definition on the back. You can also create flashcards on your mobile phone, computer or tablet. It's small, so you can take with you and revise words on the way to work, waiting in a queue at the store etc. This is the 30 minutes of everyday work on the language.
- A course. Learning with others helps decrease knowledge gaps and gives you opportunities to actively discuss concepts and material covered in class. However, you must remember that signing up for the course doesn't guarantee success. People often ask me how long it takes to learn Polish. I always answer, that this is an individual matter - sometimes half a year, sometimes 10 years is not enough. It all depends on how much you work out of the course. Going to lessons twice a week you get only tools. You must learn how to us them in practise.
- Going to Poland. We know that not everyone has an opportunity to go, but the best way to learn a language is to live in the country. Maybe you should think about holidays in Poland or a long weekend at least? If you plan everything earlier, such a trip won't ruin your budget for sure.
